Give Them A Sporting Chance
Give Them A Sporting Chance is a charity founded in 1990 to help make sporting and recreational dreams come true for carers and those with disabilities. Uniquely, recipients are asked to raise funds for a charity other than Give Them A Sporting Chance, multiplying the positive impact across a variety of causes.
The Brief
Give Them A Sporting Chance were looking to revamp their website to showcase the charity’s work, document experiences and to attract donations, fundraising activities, support and nominations. Donations would continue to be through the charity’s Just Giving page. The previous site had been built with static HTML pages, so they wanted a simple to use Content Management System for the team of volunteers to edit and update stories.
The Solution
We were reunited on the project with Chairman of the charity, ‘the Charitable Adventurer’ Charlie Martell, who loved the work that Synechis had done to support his Pacific rowing challenge and fundraising efforts.
It was clear from the outset that we wanted to bring to life the incredible experiences that recipients were having through their Sporting Chances by using the wealth of inspiring and emotive stories, spectacular and heart-warming images and videos in the charity’s archive and to create a platform to document new Sporting Chances.
We felt that the best way for new visitors to find out about the charity’s work was through storytelling, with some thoughtfully executed copy conveying the messages of some of the unique features of the charity.
Visitors can dive deep into the history of the charity by accessing a summary of every sporting chance since 1990. Where media was available, listings are enhanced with an image gallery or video.
We initially created lo-fi mock-ups of pages and components, iterating with the Give Them A Sporting Chance team as we developed a simple and clean bespoke design based on the primary brand colour from the logo. The implementation of the website was then fine-tuned by a wider pool of stakeholders to tweak and fine tune pages. The website was created in Drupal, enabling us to develop the site further to support the charity’s ongoing activities.
